1. What is Profound RF and how does it relate to Facial Plastic Surgery?
Not everyone is able to pursue surgical options, either because of time, cost, or both. Profound RF is a cutting-edge, NON-SURGICAL technology that uses radiofrequency and microneedling to assist the body in stimulating the production of all three molecular building blocks of smooth, youthful-looking skin. By triggering the production of these three essential elements, we can literally reset the clock for our patients concerned with the look of aging skin.
2. Microneedling is pretty common. How is this different?
This isn’t like the microneedling that you get done at your local aesthetician’s office. Profound uses microneedling to deliver precise temperatures to the deep layers of your skin, exactly where it stimulates your body to naturally create new elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid to build younger, plumper, better-looking skin.
3. How important are Collagen, Elastin, and Hyaluronic Acid?
These 3 skin fundamental building blocks are important in keeping our skin strong, elastic, and flexible. When their levels drop, facial wrinkles may appear, and skin can lose its spring and shine. Collagen is the glue that holds our skin together. Elastin helps skin to return to its original position when it is poked or pinched. Not unlike a rubber band, elastin is what gives the snap to your skin.
Hyaluronic acid is a gel-like liquid that improves skin hydration, stimulates the production of collagen, and helps skin to maintain its elasticity and plumpness. The Profound treatment stimulates the body to produce all three of these elements in a single treatment.
4. What can be expected from a Profound treatment?
Prior to treatment, you will have a personalized consultation to ensure that you are an appropriate candidate for the Profound RF procedure, to determine your goals, and to establish the target area for treatment. Being a Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Yerukhim is able to offer the full scope of facial rejuvenation, because he is not limited or obligated to push everyone towards this one treatment. If he feels that a candidate is not appropriate for Profound, he will discuss the full gamut of options during their consultation and determine a plan that is customized to each person’s needs and wishes.
For the procedure itself, on the day of the treatment, we numb the client with targeted numbing medicine injections, and we make sure that they are comfortable. We’ll administer treatment with the Profound system handpiece, which will deliver pulses of energy to the targeted areas. Our clients state that once the numbing is done, they don’t feel anything and that the procedure is easy and relaxing. We usually listen to music and chat!
5. What kind of downtime is required with Profound?
The great thing about Profound is that it is a one-time procedure that requires no physical downtime. What we mean by that is that, unlike surgery, Profound doesn’t require general anesthesia or the recuperation time that surgical procedures do. The procedure itself takes approximately 2 hours. After the procedure, the clients can do whatever they feel comfortable doing, but they should expect to be swollen and red, and possibly a little bruised. This generally only lasts for 3 for 4 days and is thus a “social” and not a “physical” limitation. The great thing about having this procedure done now is that many of us are still working from home, and we’re still wearing masks so most of the redness and bruising is being hidden! It’s also important to understand that the results aren’t immediate. Unlike a facelift, where you leave the OR looking radically different, with Profound, the effects are gradual. Some patients begin to see results as soon as 3 months after treatment, but full results aren’t expected until 6-9 months post-treatment. This is also a great thing about Profound. Since the results are gradual, no one needs to know that you had anything done. You just begin to look younger, more refreshed, more…you.
6. Who is the ideal Profound candidate?
Really, anyone who is looking to take years off of their face is a possible candidate. We’ve done the procedure on both men and women and have had great results. What we’ve found is that the people who have found the greatest results are those who are experiencing some signs of aging, but aren’t quite ready for a full surgical facelift. Maybe they’ve been doing Botox and fillers for a while but they’re tired of the maintenance and expense. This is a great “middle-of-the-road” alternative to improve some of those fine lines and wrinkles and tighten areas around the neck and jowls. And it’s affordable! In deciding what was best for our clients and the practice we really took price point and downtime into consideration.
7. Can other procedures be done with Profound?
Yes! Often, our clients will choose to add on additional services such as submental liposuction, which is that dreaded double chin area, that our clients often struggle with. By removing the fat, Profound is able to really create a striking difference once the skin begins to tighten in that area. Our clients also choose to enhance other areas and features on their faces as well. As a facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Yerukhim is able to work with our clients to help them attain the look that they desire. Fillers, neurotoxins, and surgical interventions are all tools that can be utilized in addition to Profound if the client desires.
